Today I saw House of Flying Daggers. Although it was not as good as Hero, I am glad it went in a different direction. As I watch myself enjoy this style of movie, I wonder what it is that draws me too them. I don't think it is just the action and fantasy. I see it as part of human evolution. At present all things seem to be a matter of life and death, of good and evil, and yet there is something beyond that. The source that holds the wires as the players dance and duel in the bamboo forest. There is a beauty in the human struggle to find meaning, to follow ones heart or mind even into the traps of the role we choose to play. Once all the blood has been spilled and the snow turns red, the awareness of it all still lives on. Even if it is only in the instance that is now and forever.
